The Next Major Tool for Precision Agriculture: Real-time Protein Monitoring ?

Post available in: English

There is a new breakthrough in Digital Farming Crop Scan Ag Solutions

It has been forecast that the world will need to increase the production of grains and oilseeds by 30% by 2050 in order to feed the 9 billion people that will inhabit the planet. A major tool available to the agriculture ecosystem to achieve this task is Precision Agriculture. The US Dept of Agriculture defines of Precision Agriculture as.

“ a management system that is information and technology based, is site specific and uses one or more of the following sources of data: soils, crops, nutrients, pests, moisture, or yield, for optimum profitability, sustainability, and protection of the environment (adapted from Precision Ag. 2003).”

A new holistic approach to Nitrogen management using the CropScan 3300H On Combine NIR Analyser, CropNet Mapping Service plus In Field Soil and Weather sensors and telemetry, can now provide the complete picture of Nitrogen availability and uptake in the field.

Proteins are made up of 17.5% Nitrogen by weight. Measuring Protein and Yield in the field and tagging the readings with GPS coordinates allows CropScanAg Solutions to develop a complete picture of the availability and uptake of Nitrogen throughout the growing cycle.

Field maps for Protein, Yield, Moisture, Nitrogen, Sulphur, Phosphorous and Potassium Removal, and Protein/Yield Correlation can be developed. A Harvest Report Card is generated which tells the farmer how his crop has performed. SImple Variable Rate Fertilization prescriptions can then be developed that will dramatically increase Yield in the next harvest.

CropScanAg Solutions provides the Hardware, the Mapping Service and Soil Advisory Services that turns Protein and Yield data into positive Yield Response.
