Snow is coming to Uco Valley in Mendoza – Heart of Argentina’s wine region
The Vines’ Chief Agronomist Francisco Evangelista sees the white powder on our vines he is ecstatic.
Evangelista explained the importance of Snow . “It’s best for vines to go through very defined seasonal changes. A very cold winter and very hot summer. The cold winter forces a hormonal change in the vine to move all of its nutrients to the trunk. Those nutrients become stored energy that will help new shoots and buds flourish in the spring. This cold weather will eventually result in a lot of growth.”
The snow in the Andes is also a welcome sign for irrigation. As the snow eventually melts it will fill the natural resources for watering the vines. In a diverse climate like the Uco Valley what can be considered frightful weather to some is delightful for the vines.
