Real Estate searches via Internet is the new norm with 76% of those who bought properties in Latin America real estate last year first investigated via the web according to a report by Google. This is not surprising given the fact that Latin America has a higher penetration of Internet users than Europe and the United States. Argentina has the highest with 67%, Chile 58% and Uruguay with 56%. However, Uruguay can boast the fastest and cheapest Internet service in the region with the recent installation of fiber optics throughout the country.
Alex Waltuch , Manager of New Business for Google, lectured at the World Trade Center in Uruguay that in one hour 500,000 Google searches occur related to real estate in Latin America. That being said, real estate brokers need to optimize their visibility on internet through search engine marketing, news feeds, blogs, tweets and especially videos. The Google presenters emphasized the fact that YouTube, which is owned by Google is the second most used search engine in the world.
