Foreign Tourism in Argentina Booms to Record Levels

Post available in: English

According to the latest report of the National Directorate of Markets and Statistics of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, a historical record was set in April of this year, with 619,000 foreign travellers reaching Argentina, representing a year-on-year increase of 105.2%.

This surplus was further evidenced by only 531,000 of its nationals going abroad in the same month. Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens, commented, “we no longer speak of recovery but of growth in international tourism, which is fundamental to generate foreign exchange and employment nationwide”.

He further noted that the successful campaign of Aerolíneas Argentinas to stimulate inbound tourism during the low season months in their destinations has been a major factor in surpassing pre-pandemic levels in April 2023. The report was based on the migration records provided by the National Directorate of Migration (DNM) and the International Tourism Survey (ETI).

What also has become apparent to those in the sector is that many of these “tourists” also express interest in investing or relocating to Argentina. With presidential elections in October, which could positively affect Argentina’s economic future should the ruling Peronsit Party lose, it is one of the countries to watch for those seeking a better life.
