By Morten L. Handrup ( Translated from Danish )

Three major rivers run through the area and with irrigation in the fertile river valleys can grow sugarbeet, alfalfa and sunflowers.

It is a huge property that has not been cultivated for 40 years.

An area of around 400,000 hectares in the northwestern part of Argentina is up for sale.

Estancia Punta del Agua, the property is called, has not been cultivated for over 40 years and is a large contiguous area the size of the total agricultural area in Zealand, writes www.landbrugsAvisen.dk

In the middle of last century when the farm was at its peak, there were about 400 people engaged in, among other cattle operations, but poor infrastructure and its isolation meant that the farm could not compete with land closer to Buenos Aires – so it ceased operating.

At the foot of the Andes

The property is located in a dryland agricultural area in the foothills of the Andes, and as the name suggests, there is plenty of water on the property. Three major rivers run through the area and with irrigation in the fertile river valleys potential to grow sugarbeet, alfalfa and sunflowers.

The sun shines 300 days a year, and in the mountains that make up one-third of the area, there are some places good opportunities to produce wine and olive oil.

Recently, a new highway Ruta 150, and high-level power was brought to the area, and thus all the prerequisites are present for the re-farming on the land.
