Buenos Aires ranks best Latin American city for students

Buenos Aires has come out on top for the best South American city to study in. For those who are students, it is now the most recommended city, for the second year running.

Paris comes out in top being the best place and next in London in front of Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne and Zurich according to the annual ranking set out by QS (Quacquarelli Symonds Ltd). In the top ten include Hong Kong, Boston, Montreal and Munich. Buenos Aires comes 33rd in all.

Other South American cities did appear on the list such as the City of Mexico which came in 46th place closely followed by Santiago in Chile at 49th place. Buenos Aires, however, remains the first Latin American city on the list by quite a large way.

The cities are ranked on a variety of things. The five main pillars include, university ranking, student composition (how many student and their country of origin), the quality of city life, the business activity in the city and the economic accessibility.

To qualify for the list, the cities must have a population of over 250,000 inhabitants and be home to at least 2 institutions that are included in the top universities ranking usually prepared by the QS.

11 of Buenos Aires’ universities made it onto this years list, even if some of them were low down on the ranking. The first to appear is the University of Buenos Aires.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) heads the global ranking of university followed by a fellow American University, Harvard, and then the British Cambridge University. The first Latin American University to come up at 127th place is the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil.

In these new rankings 30 different countries are represented and the majority of the cities included are in the USA with 7, Australia with 6, Canada with 3 and Great Britain with 3.
