Bodega Garzon in Punta del Este Uruguay – A World-Class Sustainable Winery

The 19,050 m² building has a capacity of 2.2 million litres and is the first sustainable, LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) winery outside North America, following the strict requirements set by the United States Green Building Council. Regardless of use or functionality, the certification covers the entirety of the facilities, an unprecedented event in the world.
Founded by Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni (born 24 October 1943) who is an Argentine billionaire businessman in the oil and gas sector. Following his education at the University of Buenos Aires, he joined his father’s company, the Bridas Corporation, founded by the Bulgheroni family in 1948. Following expansion by the company, half of it was sold to the Chinese state-run CNOOC Group in 2010. Bulgheroni currently resides in Manantiales, Uruguay. According to Forbes, he is Uruguay’s only Billionaire.
Bodega Garzón is in the Top 5 World’s Best Wineries
For the third consecutive year, Bodega Garzón integrated the top 5 of the World’s Best Wineries, this time achieving fourth place. In addition, this time it was the only Uruguayan winery to be present in the Top 50 of 2021.
Every year, wineries from 18 countries around the world participate in World’s Best Vineyards, a contest that awards the best wineries in the world.
Bodega Garzón was awarded for its architecture and sustainability, its wines and its tourist offers.
Besides this important acknowledgement, Bodega Garzón obtained other international awards such as being chosen the New World Winery of the Year in 2018 by Wine Enthusiast, and the LEED Certification granted to Garzón, as the first 100% sustainable winery in the world in all its facilities.
The choice was made by more than 500 experts from the world of wine and was announced on September 20 in a live broadcast on YouTube.
Bodega Garzón is a state-of-the-art building that has become the most important wine business in Uruguay. Founded by Ing. Alejandro P. Bulgheroni and owned by Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards group, it has a vineyard of over 1,200 parcels and a 19,050 m² sustainable building.
In addition, it has an exclusive restaurant for 120 diners that has the renowned Argentine chef Francis Mallmann as an ambassador and culinary Director and several wine tourism proposals to enjoy its facilities throughout the year.
Other milestones achieved by Bodega Garzón in recent years: launch of Balasto 2018 in the exclusive Place de Bordeaux, the opening of the exclusive Private Club The Garzón Club, and the outstanding presence of Balasto 2015 in the TOP 100 ranking of Wine & Spirits, Tannat Reserva 2015 in the TOP 100 of Wine Spectator magazine, Tannat Single Vineyard 2017 in Masters Of Wine, being chosen as Winery of the Year by the Descorchados Guide in 2020 and 2021 by Patricio Tapia and to have the best Winery restaurant according to the prestigious magazine Decanter.
