Argentina’s export sector is booming, entering “170 new markets” in recent years, President Mauricio Macri said on Thursday. “We opened 170 new markets. Between 2016 and 2018, many businesses that had never exported started to export,” Macri said during the inauguration of the Foro Argentina Exporta, which runs until Friday at the Buenos Aires Convention Center.
The president said his administration made exports “the centre of the production strategy,” occupying a position “where they should always have been. “We showed a long time ago that Argentina is about much more than food, we also have industry, knowledge, we’re creative … and all of that is exportable, that’s what we can sell to the world and the world wants it, because the best things we have going for us are our abilities and talent,” Macri said.
The president discussed the Knowledge Economy Law, which was approved by the Senate on Wednesday and offers tax and hiring incentives to tech entrepreneurs. “The Knowledge Economy Law was approved by the Senate yesterday and will give a boost to all kinds of technology products. This law will reduce taxes and allow (businesses) to have better labour costs, providing a way to create more jobs, bolster their exports and let them grow,” Macri said.
The president, who was accompanied at the event by several Cabinet members, called on the executives attending the forum to “innovate, develop new products and make exports an essential part of their businesses. ”Macri, however, warned business leaders to not forget the domestic market, which remains a “fundamental” pillar of the economy.
The domestic market has crucial, fundamental importance. That’s why we have to keep fighting to stabilize our economy, end the inflation. We’re going to find out just how big our domestic market can be, which this whole export effort will boost,.
