Argentina: Tika Group works towards exporting Pomegranate

1,000 hectares planted this year with 1,000 more next year

Tika Group has began pomegranate production in Argentina, on a medium to large scale. Already 1,000 hectares of pomegranate have been planted. In 2012 between the end of February, March and April, where most of the production occurs, farms will be in their prime; and in 2013 it is expected for Argentine exports to begin from the southern hemisphere to the world. #adp02

“The markets we wish to export to will be the fruit markets demanding our product
like the United States, in addition to Europe which has a taste for this fruit but there are emerging markets that have been interesting in recent years such as Russia, Japan, Korea and other countries.” Ensures Fernanda Zavala from the Tika Group.

This year will begin with the early production stages and thus a few containers per week can be sent to their customers; because this is the first productive year. Next year it is hoped that production will increase and in 2012 it is expected that a further 1,000 hectares will be planted. Also it is expected that 70% of production will be exported.

All Tika Group plantations that are being developed are characterized by the technology used and certified by Global Gap ASCCP, BRC, U.S. Gap and have all certifications that allow for doors to open in every market.

“Last year we only had a minimal potential of sale and we only exported 1 or 2
containers but we did have a harvest to test the quality of all the farms and all of them had excellent quality and brix degrees, acidity and internal and external color, among other parameters. In that sense we have not had weather or management problems,” says Fernanda Zavala from the Tika Group.
